Historical Revolutions
FranceBrief Summary of French Revolution:
Majority of French citizens were upset with the corruption and high food prices in their country. The economy was in ruins, forcing members of the Third Estate (middle/working class class citizens) to pay high taxes. Protests and street riots grew common as the Third Estate became furious with the unfair treatment they were receiving. The French Revolution was not avoidable because there has been a monarchy for centuries. Monarchies are almost always corrupt and therefore the commoners of France were bound to revolt eventually. General Connection between the French Revolution and Modern day Greek Revolution: Greece has a debt of $583 billion, forcing the government to demand high taxes from its citizens. Although, the middle/poor class citizens of Greece are not the only citizens frustrated with their government (which is what happened during the French Revolution) the historical revolution of France and the modern day crisis of Greece were both spurned from Economic problems. Like France, the Greek Revolution is not avoidable because the government has been corrupt for so long and the instability of the Greek economy. This video describes the French Revolution. |
RussiaBrief Summary of Russian Revolution:
The 1917 Russian Revolution was a direct result of unfair treatment of the poor. Street riots turned into deathly massacres while low-income citizens became desperate for change in the government. People in the country grew angrier and angrier each year until finally they came to a boiling point and the revolution became violent for all. Many lives were lost in an effort to have better treatment for the poor and escape the endless debt the working class owed to the Tsar. The resentment of the upperclass has been built up for years and would not have been able to be ceased. The revolution was not avoidable. The poor of Russia were mistreated for decades and were bound to revolt, without the consent of the wealthy, sooner or later. General Connection between the French Revolution and the Modern day Greek Revolution: The modern day revolution in Greece has many street riots as well, but none have gotten as violent as the Bloody Sunday massacre. Other common qualities between the 1917 Russia Revolution are frustration with the government, and the government giving money from the wealthy to the poor. The crisis in the country has just begun and already the conditions in Greece are similar to the conditions in Pre-Revolution Russia. Unnessacary lives have been lost and its citizens are not satisfied with the leaders of their country in both the modern Greek Crisis and the Russian Revolution. Like Russia, a revolution in Greece is inevitable due to the large gap between economic classes and instability of the Greek economy. This video describes the Russian Revolution and its result. |
